There is the coast road from Sorrento to Positano, and then there is the sea. By boat the journey becomes the best part of the day: roughly eight nautical miles of cliffs, marine reserves and hidden coves, ending with Positano rising vertically out of the water in front of you. Strider Amalfi runs this stretch as a fully private charter aboard one premium SACS RIB, captain always at the helm, for up to eight guests. No shared shuttle, no fixed timetable, no traffic. Just your group, the open water, and a captain who knows every inlet between the two villages.

The itinerary
Boarding in Sorrento
Meet your captain at the marina in Sorrento, settle in on the teak deck and run through the plan for the day. Departure time is yours to choose, morning or afternoon.
Along the Sorrento Peninsula
Cruise west past Bagni della Regina Giovanna and the cliffs of the peninsula, slowing wherever the light or the rock formations are worth a closer look.
Punta Campanella & Li Galli
Round the tip of the peninsula by the Punta Campanella marine reserve and reach the Li Galli archipelago, the islands of the Sirens, for the first swim stop in clear, deep water.
The approach to Positano
Turn back along the coast and watch Positano reveal itself from the sea, the pastel houses stacked up the hillside above the beach, a view you simply cannot get from the road.
Lunch ashore or aperitivo at anchor
Drop ashore for lunch at a beachfront restaurant in Positano, or stay aboard and moor offshore for an aperitivo on deck while the village comes alive.
Fornillo & hidden coves
Slip round to Fornillo and the quieter inlets near Positano for a final, more secluded swim away from the busiest stretch of beach.
Golden-hour cruise back to Sorrento
Make the return crossing in the softer afternoon light, with time to pause for photographs before stepping off relaxed and unhurried.
The fastest, most beautiful way between the two villages
In high season the coast road between Sorrento and Positano can take well over an hour, bumper to bumper above the cliffs. By sea the same distance is roughly eight nautical miles around the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, and aboard Strider it is a smooth, quick crossing of about thirty minutes at cruising speed. The point, though, is rarely to rush. Your captain shapes the pace around you, opening up the twin Mercury V10 engines on the straight stretches and easing off where the coastline deserves a slower look. Treat it as a pure transfer when you have a dinner reservation to keep, or stretch it into a full day of swimming and exploring. Either way you arrive in Positano by water, the way the village was always meant to be seen.

What the route looks like from the water
Leaving Sorrento you first pass Bagni della Regina Giovanna, a natural sea pool framed by Roman ruins, then the dramatic cliffs that drop toward Punta Campanella, the protected headland where the Bay of Naples meets the Amalfi Coast. Just offshore lie Li Galli, the small archipelago once owned by the dancers Léonide Massine and Rudolf Nureyev and long tied to the legend of the Sirens. From there the coast unfolds toward Positano, which appears suddenly between the headlands, its houses cascading down to the sea in ochre, pink and white. This is the classic Amalfi Coast view, and from the deck of a private RIB you have it entirely to yourselves, with the freedom to stop and swim wherever the water looks right.
A private charter, not a shared shuttle
Strider Amalfi operates one boat and one boat only, so when you book the Sorrento to Positano route the entire vessel and its captain are yours. There is no crowd to share a bench with, no fixed circuit and no pressure to keep moving. The SACS RIB is built for comfort as much as performance, with a generous teak deck, leather seating, sun pads at the bow and shade when you want it, and capacity for up to eight guests. Your captain handles everything on the water, suggests the best anchorages for the conditions on the day, and adapts the route in real time, whether you want a brisk point-to-point transfer or a long, lazy afternoon at anchor.
