Naples to Capri by Boat

A private skippered crossing of the Bay of Naples — arrive at Capri in style, then explore the Faraglioni, the Blue Grotto and hidden swim stops, all on one premium SACS RIB.

from €1.500

Crossing from Naples to Capri by boat is the most direct, scenic way to reach the island — about 18 nautical miles across the Bay of Naples, with Vesuvius astern and the Faraglioni rising ahead. On a private RIB there are no timetables and no crowded ferry decks: just your group and a skipper for the day.

Strider Amalfi runs a single premium SACS RIB with twin Mercury V10 engines, so your Naples to Capri transfer is always exclusive. Arrive in style, then explore the island at your own pace — the Blue Grotto, swim stops and lunch ashore — before cruising home.

The boat: one SACS RIB, built for the bay

Strider Amalfi is a single, carefully kept SACS RIB with twin Mercury V10 400hp engines — enough power to clear the Bay of Naples quickly and enough hull to stay composed when the open water gets lively. On deck you'll find teak flooring, leather seating, broad sunpads, a shaded area, a fridge, a Bluetooth sound system, phone charging and a swim ladder for easy access to the water.

Because we charter only this one boat, your day is never shared with another group. It's the comfort of a private yacht with the speed and intimacy of a RIB — ideal for couples, families and small groups who want Capri without the crowds.

Timing & route: across the Bay of Naples

The run from Naples to Capri is around 18 nautical miles, which our RIB covers in roughly 40 to 50 minutes depending on the sea — it's the classic crossing Italians call *da Napoli a Capri in barca*. We usually depart from Mergellina or Borgo Marinari, both a short transfer from the city centre and the cruise port; the exact pick-up is confirmed when you book.

We recommend an early start: morning means calmer water for the crossing and a better chance of reaching the Blue Grotto before the ferry traffic builds. If you'd rather browse the options in Italian, see our noleggio barca a Napoli page. Coming from the peninsula instead? The Sorrento to Capri crossing is even shorter.

From a transfer to a full Capri day

Many guests start out wanting a simple transfer and end up staying out for the whole day — and that's exactly the point of a private charter. You decide: a straight crossing to drop you in Capri, or six to eight hours circling the island with the Faraglioni, the grotto, long swim stops and lunch ashore.

Your skipper knows these waters and the best coves of the moment, handles all the navigation and mooring, and reads the sea so you don't have to. For everything the island offers once you're there, see our full Capri boat tour guide.

Frequently asked

How long does it take to get from Naples to Capri by boat?

On our SACS RIB the crossing takes roughly 40 to 50 minutes, covering about 18 nautical miles across the Bay of Naples. Exact timing depends on the sea state. Because the boat is private, we can also slow down or stop along the way whenever you like.

How much does a private Naples to Capri boat transfer cost?

A single private day starts from €1,500, with fuel charged separately based on the route. Seasonal surcharges apply: +€250 on weekends and holidays, +€500 in August and +€750 on August weekends. Message us on WhatsApp for an exact quote for your dates.

Where does the boat leave from in Naples?

We usually depart from Mergellina or Borgo Marinari, both close to the city centre and the cruise terminal. The precise pick-up point is confirmed when you book, and we'll send clear directions so boarding is quick and easy.

Is this a one-way transfer or a full day on the water?

It can be either. We can run a straight private crossing to drop you in Capri, or turn the day into a full island tour with the Faraglioni, the Blue Grotto, swim stops and lunch ashore before returning. You choose the format that suits your trip.

Do we need a boat licence or any experience?

No. A professional skipper is always included and handles all the navigation and mooring. You simply relax on board. This is a fully crewed private charter, not a bareboat rental, so no licence or boating experience is required.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If conditions don't allow a safe, enjoyable crossing, your charter is reschedulable, refundable or transferable. Your skipper monitors the forecast closely and will always recommend the safest, most scenic plan for the day.
